Rite of Election & The Scrutinies

At last weekend’s Rite of Election, those in the RCIA program were officially received as Elect by Bishop Ochoa. On the 3rd, 4th & 5th Sundays of Lent, the Scrutinies will take place. The Scrutinies are Rites of the RCIA that help those preparing to receive sacraments at the Easter Vigil to delve more deeply into their prayer life and to really “scrutinize” or discern their own readiness to be baptized or received into the Catholic Church. They are now heading into the final steps of preparation. It is fitting that the 1st Scrutiny will include the presentation of The Apostle’s Creed, which embodies the fundamental teachings of our Catholic faith - a tangible reminder of what our faith is. At the 3rd Scrutiny, they will receive the “Our Father,” the prayer given to us by Jesus Christ himself as a model of true Christian action.
