From the Diocese of Fresno The Diocese of Fresno is one of the largest in the nation, covering more than 35,000 square miles in an eight-county area. Our diverse Parishes, Missions, and Stations serve a population of more than one million Catholic faithful, out of a total population of about 2.7 million.

From the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops The Gospel of Christ and the teachings of his Church guide the work of the USCCB. The work of the Conference is rooted in three general mission goals and organized into three key areas of responsibility.

The word Rosary means "Crown of Roses". Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one. The Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because within it lies the awesome story of our salvation. With the Rosary in fact we meditate the mysteries of joy, of sorrow and the glory of Jesus and Mary. It's a simple prayer, humble so much like Mary.

Under the direction of the Good Shepherd Catholic Parish Pastor and the Parish Administrator, the Bethlehem Center and it's services operate as a critical part of the mission of the Catholic Church in Visalia.  Each year our small team of paid staff and volunteers and groups help to serve over 7,000 meals each month, 18,000 Food Pantry boxes, nearly 10,000 clothing items to the homeless with children and family, and over 360,000 pounds of food and food products.

At George McCann Memorial Catholic School we instill in our students the importance of education as spiritual and intellectual preparation for the unique mission in life to which God calls each of us. What is now the Diocese of Fresno was once a very sparsely populated desert and forest land that was one portion of the vast Diocese of Guadalajara comprising some two-thirds of the total area of Mexico. In 1769, all of Upper and Lower California were added to it.
